Exploring Art Through Play and Touch

Playeum’s workshops, based on Singapore Art Museum’s (SAM) Touch Collection, create inclusive spaces where children with special needs and their caregivers can explore contemporary art through play. Designed to encourage dialogue and ignite imagination, these workshops use tactile experiences and open-ended activities like art-making to foster self-expression. Every child’s creative expression is valued as unique and personal, reinforcing Playeum’s belief that play is universal and limitless.

Since 2023, in collaboration with SAM, Playeum is engaging neurodiverse and visually impaired communities through the Touch Collection. These workshops provide a multisensory approach to experiencing Singaporean artworks, using adaptations such as print-making to make contemporary art accessible to all. The programme nurtures meaningful interactions and enables participants to connect with art in their own ways while strengthening bonds with their caregivers.

Workshops are complimentary. We welcome community organisations and special education schools to indicate their interest with us at share@playeum.com. Bookings for workshops must be received at least 5 weeks in advance.

About SAM Touch Collection

The SAM Touch Collection is an initiative to extend the contemporary art experience to audiences of all backgrounds and abilities. A portable and interactive collection of artwork adaptations, the SAM Touch Collection is specifically developed to travel and engage with the visually-impaired community.

The works in the SAM Touch Collection are based on artworks by Singaporean artists in the museum’s collection, especially those which relate to historical, cultural and social aspects of Singapore. To cater to the needs of the visually-impaired community, the artwork adaptations are accompanied by supplementary resources and materials, such as audio guides and reproductions of finer artwork details to enhance interaction and understanding.
