Celebrating our 10 years as an IPC Charity that empowers children from all backgrounds, especially those from marginalised communities and with varying needs, and adults to transform spaces where children can thrive as the best versions of themselves.
Unleashing the power of play in building thriving children and communities
The story of Playeum began with two new mothers who wanted a different landscape for their children to learn and grow in Singapore.
Over the last decade, we did many things: we pushed for a greater access to play through roving community pop-ups, made our mark on international stages (we won nine awards!), opened Singapore’s first Children’s Centre for Creativity, and launched our High Touch play-based programmes to enable equitable learning opportunities for the most vulnerable. More recently, we evolved our mission to support communities at where they are in a time of unprecedented change and opportunity.
Children today play in different ways. The important thing for us as adults is to create the space and time for them to play… One example is Playeum, a social enterprise that organises free events to stimulate more play in Singapore… I am glad to meet such serious “players” and want to thank all of you for promoting play in our young.
- MR HENG SWEE KEAT, then Minister of Education in 2014
Today, our charity has touched the lives of more than 150,000 children and adults through more than 300 partnerships with schools, social service agencies, cultural institutions, and communities.
This is what we have learnt - children who play are resilient, creative, compassionate, and confident. Our years of experimentation and co-creation have shown how play has the power to build thriving children and communities.
We can do more together.
Come, Let's PLAY On!
As we leap into a new decade with a renewed mission, it is with energy and excitement that we welcome you to join us in an array of activities this year to experience and enable the transformative power of play!
We noticed a child, who had been quite shy during past programmes, come out of her shell. Watching her share what she had created with everyone was very encouraging. There was a new confidence in interacting with others that she had not shown before.
